Getting Started Header (8783 bytes)

A typical aircraft package consists of four elements:
1) The aircraft airframe.
2) The radio control equipment. This includes the actuators that physically control the aircraft, the transmitter that you hold in your hands, the receiver, and re-chargeable batteries and charger for both the transmitter and receiver.
3) The engine. Usually a 2-stroke methanol fuelled engine, but sometimes 4 stroke, or electric, or petrol powered.
4) The starting equipment. Briefly, the requirements for starting the engines are:
- 1.5 volts supplied to the glow plug (similar to a spark plug in a petrol engine).
- Something to turn the engine over.
- Fuel.

4) Starting Equipment
We have already mentioned the requirements for starting a model engine, this is straight forward enough. The selection of products to do the job can be somewhat confusing however. To keep things simple shown below are two examples of the equipment you may purchase to start your engine. Option 1 consists of the bare minimum, and option 2 consists of every thing you may need. Convenience is all that separates the options, they will both do the job

Option 1
1.2v re-chargeable glo start 13.95
Electric starter motor 24.95
1/2 gallon of Duraglo 5 fuel 7.30
Glow plug 3.25
Fuel filler bottle 3.99
Propeller 3.99
Deal price 52.00

You will need to provide a 12V battery to
power the starter motor. A car battery or large
(7Ah+) sealed lead acid will do the job.

Option 2
Power panel inc. fuel pump 19.95
Electric starter motor 24.95
12V re-chargeable battery for starter motor 19.95
Balsacraft flight box 19.99
Glow clip 4.95

Fuel Canister 4.50
1/2 gallon of Duraglo 5 fuel 7.30
Glow plug 3.25
Spade connectors 0.65
Propeller 3.99
Deal price 99.00

You will need to provide a charger for the 12v starter
motor battery.
