The type of fuel you use can have a dramatic impact on the performance of your model, including ease of starting and top speed.  It can also mean the difference between life and death for your engine!

Most model fuels consist of three component parts, oil which is used in a total loss fashion to lubricate the engines, what oil goes in comes out hence total loss, methanol is the main stay of the fuel, it is the primary combustible material within the fuel, and as such contributes about 80% to the overall fuel mix. Nitro methane is an optional additive to fuels and as you may guess from the name provides extra power, the difference between no nitro and, say 25% nitro is awesome, good for 4000-5000 rpm on the right engine.

Methanol
or CH3OH is an alcohol, it shouldn't be confused with recreational alcohol which is ethanol. If you drink methanol you will probably end up blind. The methanol used for model fuels must be of the highest grade. The higher the grade the less water it has in it, 99.5% and upwards is good.

Oils
The recent trend has leaned towards the synthetic oil based fuels.  Of the fuels which we stock, the most popular are those that contain synthetic oils such as Duraglo.  These fuels contain a percentage of EDL (high temperature synthetic oil), a small percentage of castor oil and up to 40% nitromethane.  Castor oil is the traditional lubricant used in glo fuel, which when used regularly will create a carbon build up on your engine, however when used in small quantities along with a synthetic oil, it provides excellent throttling. Synthetic oil based fuels tend to be more engine friendly and perform better at high temperatures than the traditional the castor based ranges.

Nitro
Nitro Methane (CH3NO2)  is what gives you extra speed.  We recommend no less than 10% Nitro for model cars.  The higher the percentage of Nitro, the faster your model will go.   If you are going to change your fuel in this manner, it is best to go up in increments, ie. 10%, 16%, 25%.  You may find that the carb will need to be adjusted accordingly.  However, be warned, not all engines are capable of taking the hottest fuel.  It is a cheap way to make your model go more quickly, but pointless if it means you will wreck your engine!  Ask us for advice.

LONG LIFE

Long Life contains 25% castor oil and a small amount of power and tractability additive.  It is recommended for the running-in of almost all glow engines except the small Cox motors.

CASTOR STRAIGHT

Castor Straight contains 20% castor oil which has been the standard lubricant in model fuels for many years.  It also contains 80% methanol.  Castor Straight is specified  for many FAI contests and is used widely by modellers who require an economical fuel.

EXPERT MIX (GX)

Expert Mix contains 20% castor oil and between 5 and 16% of nitromethane substitute.  It also contains four additional ingredients that aid throttle response. This is one of the most popular fuels.

NITRO MIX (GN)

Nitro Mix contains 20% castor oil and between 5 and 16%  percent of pure nitromethane with no other power or tractability additive.  This allows slightly cooler running than the Expert Mix.  This is the tried and tested range used by the traditional modeller.

DYNAGLO

Dynaglo contains 8% EDL and 2% castor oil with up to 40% nitromethane.  This is the range preferred by most experience modellers due to the extra power it produces plus the snappy throttling.  Dynaglo 10% and above performs very well in model cars but tends to be less forgiving than Duraglo if your engine set-up is wrong.  That said, if you are confident in your engine (and your own capabilities), this is a much cleaner running fuel.

DURAGLO

Duraglo contains 9% EDL and 6% castor oil with up to 40% nitromethane.  It provides many of the best qualities of both synthetic and castor oil making it excellent for new engines which require a good amount of lubrication.   It is a very forgiving, general purpose fuel especially suited to installations where the engine is inadequately cooled (helicopters, boats, cars) or the modeller is inexperienced.  On the downside, the high oil content means that it can be quite a messy fuel so you may have to clean your model a bit more regularly!  Most model deals purchased from us will contain this fuel.

BIG BANG

Big Bang is designed for all model cars. 10% oil content (EDL). 16% to 30% nitromethane.

FORMULA IRVINE

Formula Irvine fuel uses Klotz Super Techniplate oil and up to 30% Nitromethane.  With a total oil content of 18%.  Formula Irvine is recommended for all OS and Irvine engines for easy engine set-up and crisp throttling.

SPECIAL 4-STROKE

Special 4-Stroke contains contains 9% EDL and 9% castor oil, it has been formulated for some of the later generations of 4-strokes which produce more power and run at a higher temperature, or where the manufacturer specifies a higher oil content.

BIG BRUTE

This fuel was developed in conjunction with Mick Wiltshire of Super Tigre engines fame, for use with the 20cc plus Super Tigre engines. Contains 6 1/2% E.D.L. and 4 1/2% castor oil.

DIESEL FUEL

D-1000 is for diesels up to 1.5cc & running in.
D-2000 is a sport fuel for diesels over 1.5cc. 
D-3000 is for performance ball raced diesels running in excess of 14,000 RPM

CASTOR OIL

Top Quality first pressing Castor oil to medical standard for the very best in performance and corrosion protection.

EDL OIL

EDL is Model Technics' own pure synthetic oil used in many of the synthetic based high performance fuels.  Ideal for use in very cold conditions due to its low viscosity and tolerance to temperature.

ML70 OIL

Model Lube is a widely used small pure synthetic oil with distinctive purple colour.  ML70 burns very cleanly and leaves almost no deposits on piston or liner.

KLOTZ OILS

Regular (Original) Techniplate
Pure synthetic bases are blended for the perfect level of 2-stroke lubrication and performance. Klotz Clean Burn™ technology reduces carbon and residue build-up.  Extreme film strength engineered to reduce engine component wear and build horsepower.

Super Techniplate
Pure synthetic bases are blended with 20% BėNOL Racing Castor Oil. Provides engines the Clean Burn™ quality of Klotz synthetic lubricants along with the exceptional film strength of castor oil. BėNOL degummed castor oil reduces ring groove deposits and protects engines in high RPM and extreme heat applications.

Racing Bean Oil "BėNOL" (Degummed racing castor)
The ultimate in 2-stroke lubrication protection and performance is the choice of serious racers. Degummed and extra fortified for maximum reliability. BėNOL provides twice the level of film strength and load carrying capacity over conventional castor oils. Recommended only for fully modified racing applications.

Gasoline (RC Modelube) Techniplate
ModeLube Gas 2-cycle synthetic lubricant exceeds manufacturers warranty requirements. Specially developed for the demands of gas R/C model applications.  This special formula fights power robbing heat and burns off fast without sacrificing film strength. Plugs stay clean even at low RPM's for quick, lag free throttle response. RC scale model engines place incredible demands on a lubricant. Klotz synthetic lubricant is precision blended to meet these demands and provide your engine maximum wear protection and performance.

HI-PROOF METHANOL

Top quality pure methanol for mixing in all fuels. Our suppliers select their methanol with great care to ensure consistent performance. CH3OH - produced to spec under BSENISO 9002 - contains less than 0.05% water, a very high spec.

NITRO METHANE

CH3NO2 - we buy 99.95% pure nitromethane the best commercially available spec. This stuff is the ultimate power giver.

ISOPROPAL NITRATE

Ignition improver for diesel fuels. A must for diesel fuels.
