You can find much on site information on motor theory here.
Check out our links page for more off site information on electric motors.
Whether you are buying for a new model , replacing a clapped out motor or are looking to improve the performance of your car, there are a number of motors to choose from. The examples below are not exclusive as ranges are changing all of the time. For your information the numbers motors are given such as 540, 700, 400 etc refer loosely to their length in millimetres i.e. 54.0mm 70.0mm, 40.0mm etc. Get in touch if you want more help or information.
These motors are very common in all walks of modelling. They are used in cars, aircraft, boats, and even helis. Performance varies greatly, but you must remember the faster you go the less time you go for. As a general guide the standard 540, that for instance come supplied with most model cars is a 27 turn single motor. This means that each of the three poles in the motor has one wire wrapped around it 27 times. Hence 27 turn single, a contrast 13 turn double would have 2 wires wrapped around each pole 13 times. To make sense of these figure apply the following general rules:

This section contains complete drive units, they are sometimes required by kits for installation as per the plan.. They usually consist of motor, gearbox, propeller shaft of some description, propeller, and possibly a universal coupling.
These motors need little introduction they are the de-facto standard, just about all other motor classes are based on the Mabuchi specification. The are very useful in all areas of modelling.
Standard Range Motor classes ranging from RE140 to RE800, with power outputs that start at 1.2watts and rise to 157watts. From £3.25 |

This section contains a variety of geared motors to suit all applications, aircraft, boats, robotics, etc.
MFA Geared Motors The gear boxes use motors ranging in size from RE 140's to RE 540's. The available ratios start at 2:1 and go to 4096:1. From £7.99 |

These motors were originally produced by Graupner, in later days Robbe and Ripmax have started manufacturing them. The are mainly used in aircraft. They come in many different sizes and specifications. Click on the images to see specifications.
Assorted accessories to go with your motor.
Couplings Universal jointed couplings mainly used in marine applications, but can be used in any area of modelling you can find a use for them. £4.79 |
