You can find much on site information on motor theory here.

Check out our links page for more off site information on electric motors.

Whether you are buying for a new model , replacing a clapped out motor or are looking to improve the performance of your car, there are a number of motors to choose from. The examples below are not exclusive as ranges are changing all of the time.  For your information the numbers motors are given such as 540, 700, 400 etc refer loosely to their length in millimetres i.e. 54.0mm 70.0mm, 40.0mm etc. Get in touch if you want more help or information.

540 Class Motors

These motors are very common in all walks of modelling. They are used in cars, aircraft, boats, and even helis. Performance varies greatly, but you must remember the faster you go the less time you go for. As a general guide the standard 540, that for instance come supplied with most model cars is a 27 turn single motor. This means that each of the three poles in the motor has one wire wrapped around it 27 times. Hence 27 turn single, a contrast 13 turn double would have 2 wires wrapped around each pole 13 times. To make sense of these figure apply the following general rules:

Kyosho X-Speed Motor Series
If you want to open up a lead in the race, Kyosho's newest XSPEED Modified and Stock motors are the best choice! Featuring a new type of brush, brush damper and motor can that optimises internal air-flow. Designed specifically to attain the highest efficiency, XSPEED motors are the first choice for serious racing performance.

Stock Motors £23.99 - Modified Motors £31.50

Kyosho K-Speed Motor Series
The K-Speed motors are a custom-made series designed to suit everything form top level car racing to marine modelling and are one of the cheapest ways to upgrade your model.  The Blue Stock Series use wet magnets, have a short rotor and L-shaped sink plate.

£17.99

K-Speed 15 Motor (7313 bytes)
Mad Science Motors
A little bit on the wacky side, this range of motors are aimed at the R/C car racing market and offer excellent performance at a good price.

Marine Drive Units

This section contains complete drive units, they are sometimes required by kits for installation as per the plan.. They usually consist of motor, gearbox, propeller shaft of some description, propeller, and possibly a universal coupling.

Graupner

The Graupner range of drive units includes many variations to make marine installations neater and more efficient. The range includes geared prop shaft drives, geared universally jointed drives(as pictured here), twin motor drives, flexi drives, and even twin motored geared flexi drives

From £10.99

Mabuchi Motors

These motors need little introduction they are the de-facto standard, just about all other motor classes are based on the Mabuchi specification. The are very useful in all areas of modelling.

Standard Range

Motor classes ranging from RE140 to RE800, with power outputs that start at 1.2watts and rise to 157watts.

From £3.25

Geared Motors

This section contains a variety of geared motors to suit all applications, aircraft, boats, robotics, etc.

MFA Geared Motors

The gear boxes use motors ranging in size from RE 140's to RE 540's. The available ratios start at 2:1 and go to 4096:1.

"Speed" Series Motors

These motors were originally produced by Graupner, in later days Robbe and Ripmax have started manufacturing them. The are mainly used in aircraft. They come in many different sizes and specifications. Click on the images to see specifications.

Graupner Speed Series
A simply huge selection and diversity of motors. Varying from tiny 280 size motors up to the mighty 900 size motors. Most of the motor sizes are available in different specifications. All motors come with pre fitted suppression capacitors.

Price from £5.50

Graupner Speed Motor (5722 bytes)
Ripmax Speed Series
A selection of three of the common Graupner motors. They are cheaper and very similar in specification to the Graupner ones. All motors come with pre fitted suppression capacitors.

Price from £3.99 to £5.99
