The gyros listed above are all Piezo gyros.

Gyros are in the main connected with helis were they are used to help raine in the tail rotor control. Gyros also find their way into a varety of other models. Some examples would be:

There are two types of Gyros available, std and heading lock. Std gyros will work in the variety of models described above. Heading lock gyros are intended only for heli use, but please let us know if you are brave enough to try one in something else.

Standard Gyros

These work by dampening the effected control, in other words it slows the response of the control making it less sensitive.

Heading Lock Gyros

These gyros are much more advanced and operate with a fully closed loop system which will give both negative and positive feedback to the effected control (it will speed up or slow down as required whereas the dampening gyros will only slow down).   This attribute is known as heading lock and in helis it works to provide a heli that once set on a heading will not deviate without a users input.  This is beneficial for all pilots from beginners, allowing them to almost ignore the tail rotor in the initial hovering phase, to the more experienced pilots for cross-wind hovering, backwards flight, general 3D flying and many other manoeuvres. These Gyros tend to be more at the more expensive end of the market, but because of their performance there really are no downsides. They are fast becoming the norm in the heli world with both beginners and headcase 3d flyers alike.
